What we cut

  • Pasture and open fields, whether they've been kept up or have gone to weeds and brush.
  • Large tracts and development sites, including commercial tracts, rough sites and construction sites.
  • Large lots and estates kept cut through the year.
  • Fence lines and survey trails, when the property needs them opened up.

What we can cut

  • Bush-hogging and acreage mowing: grass, weeds and brush up to 1" in diameter.
  • Saplings from 1" to 3": we may be able to cut them with a heavy-duty rotary cutter. Send photos and we'll tell you.
  • Underbrushing: clears the underbrush, usually up to 3"–4", while keeping the larger trees. Quoted after we see photos or the property.
  • Not us: larger trees, stumps, forestry mulching, land clearing, and anything in a wetland, conservation area or buffer (why we can't touch them).

The first cut, and the cuts after it

The first cut on ground that has gotten away from its owner is the hardest one: the taller and thicker the growth, the more it costs to cut. We quote that first cut on its own. Once the property is on a regular schedule, the cost per visit is much lower.

How often? In the Tampa Bay area most properties benefit from a cut 2–4 times a year. To keep a property looking maintained, plan on every 6–8 weeks in peak growing season and every 10–12 weeks in the cooler months. How often should I bush hog my property?

Rotary cut or finish mowed?

A tractor and rotary cutter knock down tall grass, weeds and light brush and leave the cut material on the ground. It's the right tool for pasture, rough ground and anything that has gotten tall. Where a property is moderately level, mostly free of woody material and needs a finished look, heavy duty finish mowing with large diesel mowers is the better fit. Not sure which you need? Send photos and we'll tell you.

What sets the price

  • How much needs cutting. The area to be cut, not the whole parcel. Tell us if parts are wooded, wet or fenced off.
  • How tall and thick it is. Waist-high growth with brush takes longer than a field that was cut last season.
  • The ground. Slopes, ditches, soft spots, and how dry it is.
  • What's in the way. Trees, fences, stumps, debris and anything hidden in the grass.
  • Getting in. A way onto the property for a tractor.

Production can range from a quarter acre to four acres per hour depending on the machine and how dense the growth is. That's why we quote a firm flat rate up front instead of billing by the hour, so there are no surprises. How much does it cost to bush-hog an acre?

Before we come out

Walk the property and remove or mark anything that could be hidden in tall grass: pipes, stakes, sprinkler heads, septic tank covers and debris. Mark underground utilities, irrigation lines and septic systems, and flag any trees or plants you want left alone. How do I prepare my property for bush hogging?

Wet ground, wetlands and buffers

We schedule around the weather and work the drier windows. If a property is too saturated to mow safely without rutting, we'll tell you and reschedule at no charge. Wetlands, conservation areas and their buffers are off limits to machinery without special permits, and most lakes, ponds, creeks and shorelines over 10 acres usually carry an automatic 30' buffer from the seasonal high-water line. You don't need to be there

Many of our clients are out-of-town owners. We just need access to the property. We'll send photos of the completed work and can coordinate payment remotely.
